What does the Nativity story tell us?+
The Nativity story, found in Matthew 1-2 and Luke 1-2, tells about the birth of Jesus Christ. It includes the angel's visit to Mary, her pregnancy, the journey to Bethlehem, Jesus' birth in a manger, the shepherds' visit, and the wise men's journey to see baby Jesus. This is the foundation of the Christmas celebration.
Why is the manger important in the Nativity story?+
A manger is a feeding trough for animals. Jesus was born in a stable and laid in a manger because there was no room at the inn in Bethlehem (Luke 2:7). The manger symbolizes Jesus' humble birth and shows that even though He is the Son of God, He came to earth in simplicity and poverty.
What is the difference between the shepherds and the wise men in the Christmas story?+
The shepherds were ordinary workers who were watching their flocks near Bethlehem when angels announced Jesus' birth. They were the first to visit the baby (Luke 2:8-16). The wise men were scholars from the East who saw a special star and traveled a long distance to bring gifts to Jesus (Matthew 2:1-12). Both groups are important in the Nativity account.
