What is the Sermon on the Mount?+
The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus's most important teachings, recorded in Matthew 5-7. In this sermon, Jesus taught His followers about blessedness (the Beatitudes), love, forgiveness, prayer, and how to live as His disciples. He taught it on a mountainside to His disciples and a large crowd of people.
What are the Beatitudes?+
The Beatitudes are the blessings Jesus taught at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:3-12). They describe what kinds of people are blessed, such as 'blessed are the poor in spirit,' 'blessed are those who mourn,' and 'blessed are the merciful.' They show us what Jesus values and how His followers should live.
What is the Golden Rule?+
The Golden Rule is Jesus's teaching found in Matthew 7:12: 'In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.' It means we should treat other people the way we want to be treated—with kindness, respect, and love. This is one of the most important lessons from the Sermon on the Mount.
